THE ST ANDREWS EXPERIENCE WITH GUARANTEED OLD COURSE TEE TIMES

If Scotland is the ‘Home of Golf’ then the Old Course St. Andrews must be considered the ‘holy grail’ for every golfer. One of the oldest golf courses in the world, if not indeed the oldest, it is pivotal to how the game has developed over the years.

Travelling the Fairways offers you a unique opportunity to include a round of golf on the Old Course as part of your golfing itinerary. A chance to play where all the greatest golfers in the world have played and test your skills against some of the most famous landmarks in golf like: The Swilcan Burn, Hell Bunker, The Road Hole and the Valley of Sin - you really do have to plot your way around the golf course. The Old Course St. Andrews is the most iconic golf course in the world and when you walk up the 18th fairway and are just about to finish your round, take a moment to think about the history this marvellous old links has given us over the years. It’s a magical place and there is nowhere like it.

The Old Course St. Andrews is a public course and along with the New, Jubilee, Eden and Castle Courses are run by the Links Trust St Andrews. The Old Course is hugely popular with visiting golfers travelling from all corners of the world and as such tee times are highly sought after. You have several options in order to secure a game on the Old Course and we have listed some information below to help. Below is our availability of Old Course Tee Times for 2020

GENERAL PUBLIC APPLICATION PROCESS

In August/September of each year the Private Advance Tee Time Ballot Application process is available. The generale public can apply for guaranteed Old Course times via this process. Further details can be found at: https://play.standrews.com/

OLD COURSE TEE TIMES VIA THE BALLOT SYSTEM

The ballot system works by entering your names, home golf clubs and handicaps to the Links Trust before 12 noon, two days prior to the day you wish to play. We are happy to manage and guide you through this process and will be able to let you know which days work better than others as the amount of ballot times can vary from week to week. The results are then posted at 4pm in order to see if you have been successful in obtaining a tee time. Handicap limits are 24 for gentlemen and 36 for ladies and proof of handicap must be provided to the starter on the day of play. If unsuccessful, there are plenty of options for golf in the St Andrews area that can be scheduled. As the ballot system does not guarantee that you will be successful in obtaining a time on the Old Course St Andrews, we do strongly suggest, that you allow at least two to three days optimising your chances in the ballot. Within the immediate St Andrews area there are several top quality links courses, namely, New Course, Eden Course, Jubilee Course, Castle Course, Torrance Course, all St Andrews, Kingsbarns, Crail, Lundin Links, Leven, Elie and Scotscraig and Travelling the Fairways will be happy to make a reservation for you at any of these courses.

SINGLES GOLFERS

Single golfers with suitable handicaps who wish to play the Old Course without an existing tee time should check in at the Old Pavilion on the day of play and the staff will do their best to join them with a two or three-ball group. There is no obligation on the existing golfers to make up a four-ball but common practice is that single golfers are warmly welcomed. With patience, this can be successful but there are no guarantees. Please check Busy Dates before travel.
